InQpharm’s new gastro-intestinal health product, Reduflux™, has a scientifically proven active ingredient which helps relieve heartburn and indigestion by forming a protective barrier in the stomach. Launched in December 2010, this new anti-reflux innovation from InQpharm has been selling successfully in Germany with further international launches in 2011.
Certified as a Class IIa medical device, Reduflux™ works without any pharmacological action and is a safe alternative to drugs. It is the only anti-reflux gastro-intestinal product that contains the proprietary ingredient Phycodol™, a natural sodium alginate derived from seaweed. A natural substance, this is found in the cell walls of brown algae and is safe for human consumption. Phycodol™ provides the main structural component for raft formation, sodium bicarbonate and calcium carbonate as excipients to provide buoyancy and increase the raft strength respectively. This combination of ingredients enables the formation of raft that floats on the gastric contents for the prevention of gastro-oesophageal reflux.
Reduflux™ is certified and manufactured according to the stringent EN ISO 13485 for medical devices. The capability of forming a barrier in the form of a gel-like raft in the stomach is the scientific basis of Reduflux™’s medical device licence (MDD/93/42/EEC) for gastro-intestinal health. This offers new and unique business opportunities with claims approved EU-wide.
This product is the first in the GastroSmart™ range of gastro-intestinal health products. Further products are to follow, launching later this year and in 2012.
